Classic strategy
JellySplit Classic Chain Strategy
Classic is JellySplit's score-chase mode. The board moves faster than Puzzle mode, but strong Classic play still comes from reading groups, choosing swaps that can burst, and keeping enough time to make the next decision.
Short answer
The best Classic strategy is to take reliable bursts when the timer is low and build higher-value chain setups when the timer is healthy. A good swap should score now or leave the refill close to another burst.
- Best for
- Leaderboard runs and quick score chasing
- Core skill
- Balancing speed, bursts, and setup quality
- Mode note
- Classic runs are seeded and replay-validated for fair scoring
Play to the timer state
Classic decisions change when the timer changes. With healthy time, you can spend a beat finding a move that sets up a better chain. With low time, the correct move is often the most reliable burst that keeps the run alive.
- Healthy timer: look for setup moves near existing groups.
- Low timer: prioritize a burst or clear score gain over a perfect plan.
- After a time bonus, re-scan instead of repeating the same local pattern.
Favor burst-adjacent swaps
A burst is more valuable when the refill lands near a second group that is already close to scoring. Moves around busy areas of the board can create better chain potential than moves on an isolated edge.
- Target groups that are one useful connection away from bursting.
- Prefer central setups when they do not destroy an existing group.
- Watch the refill area after each burst before making the next swap.
Do not overplan a live board
Classic rewards reading speed. A route that would be optimal in Puzzle mode can be too slow in Classic if it costs the run. Use pattern recognition to choose strong-enough moves quickly.
- Use one quick scan for anchors and bridge cells.
- Take dependable points when a complex setup is unclear.
- Let chains create opportunities instead of forcing every move.
Recover after cascades
After a chain reaction, the board state can change enough that the old plan no longer matters. Good Classic players reset their read after refills instead of tunnel-visioning on the previous color.
- After a cascade, scan the new center first.
- Look for fresh partial groups created by the refill.
- Avoid swapping from memory when the board has changed.
Common questions
Should I play Classic fast or carefully?
Both. Play carefully enough to find useful bursts, but fast enough that the timer stays healthy. The balance changes during the run.
Is Classic the deterministic mode?
Puzzle mode and daily puzzles are deterministic challenges. Classic is the fast score-chase mode, with seeded and replay-validated runs for fair leaderboard scoring.
